Hanukkah

Hanukkah is a eight day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple ( The Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century. Hanukkah is also known as The Festival of Lights, Chanukah and Chanukkah. The holiday is observed by the kindling lights of a unique nine branched Menorah, one additional light on each night of the holiday progressing to eight on the final night. This year Hanukkah starts on December 20 at sunset and ends on December 28 at sunset. It is a custom to eat foods  that are baked or fried to celebrate the miracle of the small flask of oil keeping the flame in the Temple alight for eight days. Traditional foods include potato pancakes and jam filled doughnuts.
