Today in Detroit Free Press I read about the family of a man on Detroit's northeast side says he died a hero trying to keep an armed robber from hurting his wife, Alberta Caldwell. Tommie Caldwell age 63 died of a gun shot wound inside his home at 5:05a.m. in the 18400 block of Edinborough according to police and family. Police say that he was shot while being robed inside of his house, Tommie Caldwell left his home early to catch a bus. His car was broken down Caldwell had been taking public transportation to part time job at a Highland Park factory. But this morning an armed robber approached him at forced him to walk back to his house. Once they were inside a struggle ensued and Caldwell to a fatal blow Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said. The man escaped with his wife' s purse and fled in a getaway car waiting for him. The family was told that Alberta Caldwell's purse and the getaway car abandoned. The police says that they are still gathering evidence and asking witnesses. Alberta's sister says " We just want then to be caught," she said " It's a tragedy".
