Mae Jemison was born on October 17, 1956 she is the first African-American woman to travel in space when she went into orbit on the Endeavour space shuttle on September, 12, 1992. Mae Jemison has won many awards such as the Essence Science and Technology Award, the Tuner Trumpet Award, Kilby Science Award, McCall's 10 outstanding Women for the 90s and many more. Mae Jemison's insparation was African-American actress Nichelle Nichlos , who played Lieutenant Uhura on Star Trek . Jemison was turned down on her first application for NASA but in 1987 she was accepted on her second application. Jemison also use to work as a Medical Doctor Mae she is now 55 years old and retired.

Bianca Jones: Detroit police request warrant in missing toddler case
The Detroit Police Department requested for a warrant on Tuesday in the disappearance of 2 year old Bianca Jones. Neither the Wayne Prosecutor's Office nor police discuss the warrant request including names and charges associated with it. "The warrant request is being reviewed and there will not be any decisions made this week ", Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller wrote. We will not Observed this case anymore this week. Terry Johnson Attorney for Bianca's father, D'Andre Lane said Tuesday that his client hopes for his daughter's safe return. Lane's Home was searched and investigators questioned him several times in the case that is nearly two weeks old. Lane reported the toddler missing Dec. 2, after telling police he was carjacked at gunpoint near East Grand Boulevard and Brush Street. He said Bianca was taken with the car. Hanukkah
Hanukkah is a eight day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple ( The Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century. Hanukkah is also known as The Festival of Lights, Chanukah and Chanukkah. The holiday is observed by the kindling lights of a unique nine branched Menorah, one additional light on each night of the holiday progressing to eight on the final night. This year Hanukkah starts on December 20 at sunset and ends on December 28 at sunset. It is a custom to eat foods that are baked or fried to celebrate the miracle of the small flask of oil keeping the flame in the Temple alight for eight days. Traditional foods include potato pancakes and jam filled doughnuts.

Court Hears Plea For Reagan Shooter to Gain Eventual Release From Mental Hospital
On Wednesday the mental hospital who holds John Hinckley Jr. is asking federal court to allow the man who shot President Ronald Reagan in 1981 more days outside of St. Elizabeth Hospital were he is being held.The hospital says they want to expand his days to 24 days to go outside the hospital grounds and visit his grandmother.They eventually want to release Hinckley from the facility to live with his 85year old mother. The government still thinks he is a man capable of dangerous violence and his mental condition has not improved at all. A forensic psychologist at the hospital testified that " Hinckley has recovered to the point that posses no imminent risk of danger to himself or others" Hinckley returned to court in the spring 2011 to determine his future

Family of Detroit man killed early today says he died saving wife
Today in Detroit Free Press I read about the family of a man on Detroit's northeast side says he died a hero trying to keep an armed robber from hurting his wife, Alberta Caldwell. Tommie Caldwell age 63 died of a gun shot wound inside his home at 5:05a.m. in the 18400 block of Edinborough according to police and family. Police say that he was shot while being robed inside of his house, Tommie Caldwell left his home early to catch a bus. His car was broken down Caldwell had been taking public transportation to part time job at a Highland Park factory. But this morning an armed robber approached him at forced him to walk back to his house. Once they were inside a struggle ensued and Caldwell to a fatal blow Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens said. The man escaped with his wife' s purse and fled in a getaway car waiting for him. The family was told that Alberta Caldwell's purse and the getaway car abandoned. The police says that they are still gathering evidence and asking witnesses. Alberta's sister says " We just want then to be caught," she said " It's a tragedy".

Garrett A. Morgan
Garret A Morgan Sr was born on March 4 1887 in Paris, Kentucky he invented the gas mask/protective hood the automobile traffic light, and a hair straightening preparation. Today people still use his most popular inventions today the traffic light and the gas mask. The gas mask is use to allow people to breath in smokey areas and the traffic light is used to tell people when to go and stop. The Prince George's County Board renamed Summerfield Boulevard to Garrett A. Morgan Boulevard in his honor. Garrett A Morgan died on August 27, 1963 at the age of 86 in Cleveland,Ohio.
History of Kwanzaa
Kwanzaa was created by Maulana Karenga of the US Organization in 1966 as the first specifically African American holiday. he said that his goal was to " give Blacks an alternative to the existing holiday and give Blacks an opportunity to celebrate themselves and history rather than simply imitate the practice of the dominant race. The name Kwanzaa comes from the Swahili phrase matunda ya kwanza, meaning the first fruit of the harvest. Kwanzaa celebrates the seven princibles of Kwanzaa or the seven princilbes of African Heritage. Kwanzaa last for seven days and each day means something.

- Kujichagulia (Self-Determination): To define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves stand up Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility): To build and maintain our community together and make our brothers' and sisters' problems our problems, and to solve them together.

- Nia (Purpose): To make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.

- Imani (Faith): To believe with all our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders, and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.
